New Tree Guard - Ocean & Parkside

The baby tree at the Parkside end of the block finally received a wrought-iron tree guard after much back & forth with the city!  This tree is in one of the most high-traffic areas in the neighborhood (corner across from Prospect Park entrance, next to a bus stop, outside of the Parkside subway stop), and we feared it would not survive.  Now we are very hopeful that this tree will have a long life on Ocean Avenue!

Last year I built a wooden guard around the tree and planted flowers only to see that work trampled and destroyed after only a few months.  At our June 5th event our neighbor Paul spent much time & muscle cleaning out the treebed, and now that there is a proper guard, I planted another round of perennials and topped it off today with mulch from Greenwood cemetery.  Let's hope this garden is here to stay!

New Garden...

Before with new guard...

Before that... this was destroyed...

Before that... new tree, very sad...

A huge shout-out to Ms. Agnes who is going to water and keep an eye on this new garden!  Thank you Ms. Agnes!
