THANK YOU!

Thank you to the over 70 neighbors who showed up to help plant over 700 daffodil bulbs up and down Ocean Avenue (between Flatbush and Parkside) and around Parkside Plaza!  We had amazing weather and lots of fun digging in the dirt together.

A special thank you to the event captains - Stanley, Paul, Remle, Crystal, Avellino, and Kim (the folks in the yellow and red aprons) - and a huge shout-out to Rudy and the Parkside Committee. We have some truly wonderful people in PLG!

Spring will be here before you know it and the daffodils will be in full bloom.  It will also then be time for another planting event!  Have a wonderful holiday season and winter, and we will see you in the spring.

Here's to flowers, trees, and greening PLG!

November 23rd around the corner!

Hi Everyone!

We are looking forward to our upcoming Daffodil bulb planting event on November 23rd at 1pm (see below post for all the details).

Here is the checklist for the work that we will do together.  Please come dressed for cooler weather and if you have any gardening tools, please bring them along!

Remember that there will be two meet-up locations at 1pm:

(1)  Ocean by the Park Tree Club (I will be here with a team of gardeners) - 125 Ocean Avenue

(2)  Parkside Committee (Rudy Delson and a team of gardeners) - Parkside Plaza (outside the Q train stop at the corner of Ocean and Parkside Avenues)

See you on Sunday the 23rd!

PS -  We are mentioned on the NYC MillionTreesNYC Facebook page - check it out - https://www.facebook.com/MillionTreesNYC

DAFFODIL PLANTING!

We hope to see you on November 23rd!

Thank you! Adopt a Tree?

After a break for the summer and the fall back to school shuffle, we are back and ready to prepare for winter - and spring!  Before we gather again to green our stretch of Ocean Avenue, we wanted to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has taken the time since our Flowers on Ocean event last June to:

  • Water the flowers and trees
  • Plant MORE flowers
  • Pull weeds
  • Spread fresh mulch and/or compost
  • Pick up the trash
  • Say "thank you" to a neighbor tending to a garden

I notice myself walking a bit slower every time I am on Ocean Avenue so I can smile at the unique ways that buildings and home owners have expanded their greenery - thank you, thank you!

We still have work to do however.  Not every tree is thriving, nor has every plant that we planted in June survived.  As we look to the next event later in November, it is one of our goals to have every tree and tree bed garden "adopted" by at least one neighbor.  Neighbors who will look after the trees and flowers, water when needed, pick up trash and be part of a team working together to keep our piece of Ocean Avenue beautiful.  Perhaps you will sign-up?

We hope to see you on November 23rd (details above).

PLANT LINCOLN ROAD - JUNE 28th

Hi Ocean Avenue Tree Club Friends!

The Flowers on Ocean event on June 7th was awesome, and now it's time for us to share to love with Lincoln Road between Ocean and Flatbush!  Because a number of the Ocean Avenue tree pits were already planted by awesome neighbors before June 7th, we have "lovely leftovers" to share!  I checked in with LinRoForma (the group that planted the flowering planters on the Lincoln Road bridge) and they would love to have the tree pits planted.  Here's the deal:

SATURDAY, JUNE 28th - 1pm
- Meet in front of 125 Ocean Avenue
- Bring gloves and gardening tools with you - this is a casual get-together of  gardeners - we don't have sponsorship this time so come prepared with your own stuff.
- Anyone want to volunteer to bring water and/or snacks?
- There are about four tree pits that we need to plant plus three more that just need mulch as the tree roots are too large to plant around.  This is 1/10th of Ocean Avenue so it should be an "easy day".
 - We will move flowers, compost and mulch (only a small amount) from 125 Ocean to Lincoln Road.  If you have a handcart, wagon or wheelbarrow - bring it!!
- We will follow the same flow-of-work that we did for our Ocean Avenue event - see below checklist for a refresher.
- We don't have new tree/flower care signs for this event, but if someone wants to volunteer to make some, below is how I did it for Ocean Avenue!  There are also free down-loadable signs from MillionTreesNYC here - http://www.milliontreesnyc.org/downloads/pdf/Treebedsign2.pdf.  I teach and just don't have time to make them this "last week of school" week - let me know if you want to take the lead on this!

RSVP to me if you can make it so I have a head-count - alvmusick(AT)gmail.com!

Hooray!
