THANK YOU - Winterizing Event 2015

A huge THANK YOU to the approximately 30 volunteers who attended our event on Saturday!  It was a success with our 50 tree-beds ready for the winter, and amazing Fairy and Elf houses decorating the block:  we couldn't have done it without the help of our wonderful neighbors!  We also want to thank the NYC Parks Stewardship Program which sent Lesley and the TreeLC truck filled with mulch - thank you for working with us side by side as we made our stretch of Brooklyn a little more beautiful!

Enjoy the pictures and walking up and down Ocean Avenue!  In the spring, be on the lookout for daffodils from The Daffodil Project (http://www.ny4p.org/daffodil-project) and tulips from Brooklyn Botanic Gardens (thanks to our Ocean Ave neighbor Mimi J).

GREENEST BLOCK: HONORABLE MENTION

My apologies for getting this news out so late (I was out of town for the summer), but just in case you didn't see the earlier announcements, our block received an Honorable Mention in the Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest.  With over 200 entries, I am super proud to have made the list and want to thank you all again for the work you have done to make our block more beautiful!

Here is a link to the contest winners - GREENEST BLOCK CONTEST.  You will also note that there are a number of other blocks in the neighborhood that were recognized: Go Prospect Lefferts Gardens!

Please be on the lookout for information about upcoming greening events and opportunities:  let's keep up the good work!

New Tree Bed Garden - Ocean & Parkside

Seeing the sad tree bed at the end of Ocean Avenue at the new Parkside Plaza this past week made me angry.  Regardless of our efforts, the tree bed was already in terrible shape only one month after our block-wide greening event.  My anger turned in to action and today there is a new tree bed garden.  I bumped in to Ms. Agnes, our Ocean Avenue Gardening Angel, and she helped me water the new plants and baby tree.  If you are down this way, give this garden some love!

The good news:  I smiled the entire time I walked from my home in 125 Ocean to this project as all of the other tree bed gardens look wonderful.  Thank you to everyone for looking after the Ocean Avenue trees and gardens!
