New Tree Bed Garden - Ocean & Parkside

Seeing the sad tree bed at the end of Ocean Avenue at the new Parkside Plaza this past week made me angry.  Regardless of our efforts, the tree bed was already in terrible shape only one month after our block-wide greening event.  My anger turned in to action and today there is a new tree bed garden.  I bumped in to Ms. Agnes, our Ocean Avenue Gardening Angel, and she helped me water the new plants and baby tree.  If you are down this way, give this garden some love!

The good news:  I smiled the entire time I walked from my home in 125 Ocean to this project as all of the other tree bed gardens look wonderful.  Thank you to everyone for looking after the Ocean Avenue trees and gardens!

WE DID IT! Top 40 - "Greenest Block In Brooklyn" Contest

Our efforts were noted by the Greenest Block in Brooklyn judges and we are now in the "Top 40" - read all about it below in the contest newsletter announcement.  You will also note that there are a number of other blocks in the neighborhood that have been selected - GO PLG!

To keep our block beautiful, let us all keep up the good work by:
  • WATERING THE FLOWERS AND TREES AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE
  • PICKING UP TRASH
  • WEEDING (remember:  pull by the roots so they don't grow back)
Thank you again for supporting The Ocean by the Park Tree Club, and here's to greening!

Greenest Block in Brooklyn: We Are Entered!

When the Greenest Block in Brooklyn program manager contacted me directly a while back about entering the contest, I thought it was a crazy idea for such a new group of gardeners.  However, after the work we did together on May 30th, why not go for it?!

Judges will be visiting the block throughout June and July - results are posted in August.  Here is a link to the contest information - http://www.bbg.org/greenbridge/greenestblock

Regardless of the contest results, let's keep our block beautiful by:
  • WATERING THE FLOWERS AND TREES AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE
  • PICKING UP TRASH
  • WEEDING (remember:  pull by the roots so they don't grow back)

Thank you again everyone!
